Acting My Age is his 27th release as a solo artist and continues a tradition of mixing and matching musical styles. With a distinctly upbeat vibe and the cadence of a storyteller, Bing charts a winding path through 10 new original tracks that range from Texas swing and neo-traditional instrumentals to Southern rock and 80s synth-pop, all featuring the mountain dulcimer in a variety of sonic roles.

Tapping into his background as a soundtrack composer, Bing weaves orchestral elements into the tracks, blending Native American flute and other woodwinds with lush strings, brass horns, and synthesizers. The album’s fever-dream production style centers on Bing’s vocals and dulcimer, whispering, soaring, and driving on each track, backed by layers of lush harmonies and organic sound design.

Heard separately, each track tells its own story.  The amiable old-time stomp of "Shaken Awake" is a swirl of dulcimers and other strings that morphs into a dance groove, while the minor-key mashup of "Boil Aunt Rhody Down" becomes a full-blown horror film soundtrack.  Bing's versatile tenor drives tunes of swamp rock grittiness ("Homosassa"), smooth Texas swing ("It Don't Make No Diff'rence If I Do"), and unironic 80s new wave ("Lovely Lovely Life"), switching channels and tone with every track. Two of the tracks,  "ChatGPT (Been Very Very Good To Me)" and "Going To Winfield", were released as promotional singles and have been re-recorded and remixed for the album.

Acting My Age is a sandbox of ideas put to music that directly and indirectly address the concept of joie de vivre: an enjoyment of life. There’s plenty of subtext, but it’s whimsically upbeat about artificial intelligence, Florida river towns, crazy hobbies, cool music festivals, social interactions, and the gleeful twisting of musical traditions.
